Our Dual Mission
Fashion in the Square is a non-profit organization whose mission is to showcase local fashion related talent while creating couture fashion awareness in Delaware.
Using fashion as a medium, Fashion In The Square is additionally dedicated to enhancing self-esteem and promoting success in dis-advantaged young people.
Mission Q & A
How does your organization help kids?
We help children who take an interest in the fashion industry two ways. First, with the help of our supporter's contributions, we are able to provide the necessary implements to help them achieve their goals. These range from textiles to sewing machines to cameras. Second, with the help of our growing staff of volunteers, we help by mentoring the careers of our aspiring models, designers, photographers, etc. as well as assisting them with creating the portfolios necessary for higher education and work in the fashion field.
What does your organization provide to help disadvantaged youth?
It really depends on their goals. For one aspiring designer we are supplying fabric, a sewing machine and patterns. For models we can help with their walk and overall presentation, provide personal training with a certified trainer, assist with getting them photos for their portfolios, and provide introductions to our agency connections in New York to help propel their careers. The fashion industry is vast and each child has a different goal, but by giving them positive reinforcement, skills, confidence and tools, our goal is to get them where they need to be to shine.
